Oh man, this is great. My sister is like this. One day we went out to eat and the following exchange happened:
Me: Do you have a military discount?
Cashier: I’m sorry, we don’t.
Me: That’s okay, inserts card
Sister: You really should!
Me: Please stop
She also asks me where I get discounts for when she wants a new phone or miscellaneous expensive item.
Shop owners offer military discounts as a courtesy. Being an ass about it or abusing the system would make me want to retract the policy altogether if I was a store owner.

My great grandfather enlisted not for his family or his country; but for discounts over 5%.

I enlisted because they promised me 15% off at yankee candle company. Worth it
