What makes this worse is Missouri just passed a bill to legalize medical cannabis use for patients like this. Doesn't surprise me though with this being Missouri. They also passed a side part of that bill saying employers retain the right to terminate you even if a doctors prescription is written.

Edit: I understand the legality of this still not recognized on a Federal level and some corporations must operate Federally / Internationally. My main driving point is that any individual like this that is dependent on possible benefits for health insurance and otherwise, which might be lost as a result of an attempt to make their end of life comfortable. Yes, there are COBRA laws and other low cost healthcare insurance options, but they aren't always the best or have the same rates as larger employers.

Overall, events like this story are a clear reason why as a whole the nation needs to re-evaluate our priorities and moral divisiveness. Seems like this movement is occurring at a State/Local level, but needs to be discussed Federally.

Side note: 10k votes! Now officially my highest comment is defending pot use.

Does anyone actually agree with this? I mean, we’re talking about a terminal patient with a very low life expectancy...wtf
