I was talking to a French speaker in London via a friend who was interpreting for us, because this French guy didn’t speak any English and my French is patchy at best.
At some point I mentioned I was headed to Berlin for a few days. They then asked me if I could speak German and I said no (I wish I did, I only know a few bits and pieces), he then told without a shred of irony, in French, while sitting in London that it was rude of me to go to another country and not learn the language.
Some people are just too self-centered for international travel.
I worked with a girl from Thailand. She was very sweet, but had Abit of broken English. One day she apologized for it, and explained that her husband had complaints about it. I look at her and went "Look, May. You speak far more English than I speak Thai and if he complains again then tell him to speak Thai." I made me so mad when people were assholes to her because she was a lovely person.
