I lost two of my IRL best friends to suicide in the last 3 months and hadn't been on xbox live since December. Logged on about two weeks ago and was greeted by several messages in my inbox from my online friends (we've played together since about 2009) asking me how I was doing and if something happened. It was really nice to come back to that. Online friends are real friends... don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Never cried as hard as when my guild leader died of cancer. He knew he was going to go so he gave us his gear, money, and asked us to continue helping people like he helped us when we joined his guild. This was 9 years ago and at one members wedding we left a seat open in his remembrance in the “guild” members seating.

I once flew my family to the other side of the world to meet one of my online friends and their family. Didn’t get murdered, would do it again.
