I think most IT-people have - at some point in time - been handed a computer/HDD/camera and been asked to extract files from it. I also think most IT-people have turned a blind eye to the inevitable porn folder.
I mean, people will be people, and there's no reason to make a grieving widow/mom/sister look through that and tarnish their memories.

There’s a “black mirror” episode on Netflix hovered around the same concept of invading the privacy of the child (albeit a little more extreme).
The episode is titled arkangel if anyone is interested. It’s pretty interesting.
