When I was 19 I broke my arm in a bicycle accident, and with a full-arm cast I went to Lollapalooza in Chicago. Went to this sushi restaurant and was really surprised that no one was there. Sat right at the sushi bar, and having just gotten back from Japan I knew a little bit of Japanese. I started talking to the sushi chef and he asked about my arm/was I from out of town/lollapalooza/etc and then he asked if he could sign my cast. In my head "fuck yeah, awesome Japanese calligraphy on my cast" and then when he finished....in big, bold, capital letters...."SUSHI LOOP" written the entire length of my forearm
TLDR - Sushi restaurant chef asked to sign my cast and used me as a billboard for his restaurant while I was at Lollapalooza
For those who can't read chinese: she got her back tattooed with 独立 (indipendence), 无情 (merciless), 好奇 (curiosity), 狡猾 (conniving) and maybe 无畏/无谓 (fearless/apathetic)

I took 4 semesters of Chinese in undergrad. My cousin knew this and excitedly showed me her new tattoo on her arm: 对不起
"It means 'peace, joy, and love'" she said. I had to break it to her that 对不起 （dui bu qi) means "I'm sorry".
I don't think she believed me, but I still chuckle about it every time I see her now.
