Bonus pic taken almost a full hour later from a much higher viewpoint. That's how crazy this sunset was!

This was without a doubt one of the top 10 light shows I’ve been lucky enough to photograph. This particular scene was facing roughly 60° to the right of the actual sunset and I can’t even begin to explain the color and light that was going off. It was hard to keep my focus on the scene in front of me and not turn to watch the main sunset to my left.

Anyways, the scene you see here is Three Sisters peak in the Superstition Mountains. The area is filled with cacti including my favorite: teddy bear cholla (the ones closest in the foreground). While I love the name, whatever you do, don’t snuggle up next to one like a teddy bear! I scouted out this area for a couple hours before sunset and eventually found this comp which I haven’t seen shot before. I really enjoyed this spot and love all the different types of cacti in the scene. There are the deadly teddy bear cholla, the common saguaro (big tall ones) and what I believe are large barrel cactus.
