His deal-making was basically scamming. That specific style of deal-making only works while the ones you are dealing with are unaware of the tactic. His deal-making is not working anymore because practically the whole world knows the tactic now. I.e., except his base, who are the same ones donating to that one GoFundMe campaign to build a wall. *Facepalm*

Trump supporters moved the goalposts LONG ago when it came to Mexico paying for the wall. Now they claim that it was always Mexico "paying us back" in the form of reduced immigration to the US, "better" trade deals for the US, etc. You know, because that's obviously what most of those simpletons you see at his rallies thought 3 years ago when they were chanting back and forth with Trump "who's going to pay for it? MEXICO!"
