That entire season was just asking what happens when Michael gets disillusioned by corporate. He gets put through hell only to find himself a subordinate of Charles. It doesn’t surprise me at all to see him go off and try to start Michael Scott Paper.

What was REALLY messed up was the way David sent Charles to babysit at Scranton when Michael's branch was LITERALLY the only profitable branch in the company to the point he wanted Michael to go on a speaking tour of other branches to try and replicate the success he was having at Scranton. And then this glorified babysitter CANCELS MICHAEL'S 15TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY! Michael was literally the only manager keeping that ENTIRE company afloat, and they treated him like garbage.
