This happened in March, leaving two females behind.

Rhinoceroses have had a great lineage of species from the large Paraceratherium to the hornless Cadurcodon. It's a real shame the whole family is going extinct.

r/SanDiego Zoo has a program working to bring the population back. Just recently they used a northern white rhino zygote with a southern white rhino surrogate and I believe last I read, it took and she's pregnant. If this works they will be able to restore a population but most likely never leave captivity. Good thing they have hundreds of acres of open land to roam.

If you've never been, the San Diego Zoo: Safari Park is amazing and worth the trip.

Edit: Wow, I was on a plane and just saw this blew up. I'm glad my top comment is about something good.
