Most of the people in congress can afford to postpone their salary.

Really, every time there's a shutdown, the first thing to go should be their staff funding for two years.

This would only hurt people like her in Congress. Most of them are millionaires and aren't reliant on the government pay check. They could use shut downs as a tactic for members that don't have much money, for example, her.

This is one of those “sounds good in a tweet, but dumb idea” things.

What this would do is give independently wealthy congresspeople a leg up in shutdown negotiations.

So people like AOC would be desperate to open if they didn’t get a paycheck on time

Meanwhile, millionaires would laugh off the delay in their congressional salaries.

So sure. This sounds reasonable. It sounds right.

But the impact would be exactly the opposite effect she’s looking for.
