Post office is the same way; they're open from like 8a-5p, why not 11a-8p or something? I don't get my mail sometimes till 8p, so I know they're doing stuff.
Truth is that average people are not a bank's biggest customer. Other businesses are.
Most working people might have a few 1000, possibly 10000s but in reality the average person works in what is pocket change to a bank.
A bank's biggest customers are other businesses, who work 9-5, and the already wealthy who may be self employed or who decide their own hours who can visit during the day. Banks don't need to care about average people so they don't.
