During this massacre, so many bodies were thrown into the water that the Danube ran red with blood. It's not a small river.

I lived in Budapest for 2 years and this is one of the most memorable things. Hungarys history is super sad. They have been through a lot. Just walking around, there are still bullet holes in random buildings from the revolutions. Also the most incredible museum I have ever been to is in Hungary. It’s an old communist head quarter and each level is a part of Hungary’s history. The name is quite fitting. The House of Terror.

My grandfather was in the Budapest Ghetto. He told me when the Nazis did this they typically tied two people together, shot one, and let the dead weight drag the other person down so they would save bullets.

He’s still with us today. One time his brother was being taken down to the river to be shot and he just ran away. Saved his life.
