Am I the only one who thought it was the shakers themselves that were animate and not the spices inside them. Like the mailbox was animate, the end table was animate, but the mail and notebook inside them were just things that were put inside them. That show was weirder than I realized.
They’re the shakers themselves not the spices. Several time throughout the series they pour salt + pepper on things, which tells us that they are just the shakers and simply contain/name themselves after the spices. Anyone familiar with Blue’s Clues lore knows this come on.

So, they're different but the mixup isn't hard to imagine.
