My son once told my wife and I that he had to dress like a "prehistoric person" for a trip to a museum. We made him a caveman costume by ripping up some old sweatpants and a brown sweatshirt. It ended up looking like a loincloth. We burned a cork and put it all over his face and I made a club out of a big stick. Like the parents in this photo, who made a hell of an Elvis costume, we went full-in on the "Prehistoric Person". It was a great costume for his field trip. Which the next day I learned was to the Colonial Village. Everyone else had dressed like a pilgrim and there was my son dressed as a motherfucking caveman holding a club.

It was 5 years ago and I'm still laughing about it as I write this. Elvis parents, I'm pretty sure I know what happened here. The kid didn't bring home the paperwork, didn't listen in class, and told his parents verbally what he needed.

Pretty sure this school did an Elfis production. They're a line of plays where one elf is Elvis and the others are regular elves. They have a few plays out.

When I was in the third grade, our school had an adopt-a-grandparent program where we would visit a local nursing home a few times through the year to mainly keep them company on an otherwise uneventful day.

The day before a visit, our teacher asked us all to bring in a carnation for our grandparents. So I go home and tell my mom that I need to bring in a carnation to school tomorrow.

Also note; my fam has only ever lived in apartment buildings up until this point and never had to tend to a garden and our first language wasn’t English.

I show up to school the next day and see all the other kids holding these flowers. While staring down at my can of Carnation Brand evaporated milk, it was at that moment that I realized the brands logo is the same flower everyone else was holding.

My grandfather accepted my gift with such a huge smile. His reason: the other grandparents were just gonna throw out the flowers, he had quality evaporated milk for his coffee.
