Your honor, I'd like to present Exhibit A on why u/mrguse should never be a foster home for pets. I would look like Dr. Doolittle in 2 weeks.

He looks like he has some flippers! This is adorable, but he looks like a seal.

To anyone wondering why the dogs paws look strange or “splayed”. It’s likely a phenomenon called cage paws. It happens from dogs living on wire crates for long periods of times(months or years) it causes the bones and skin to elongate from the pressure the dog puts on them in order to stand and balance on the gaps in the wire.

It’s very painful, but can heal with time. It’s common in puppies at puppy mills.

Read more about it here. https://www.humanesociety.org/sites/default/files/docs/wire-grid-problems-factsheet.pdf

And to the foster failures ;) you guys rock, I hope you have a super fun time with your new adorable woofers. Give Prince a kiss for me, cause those puppy dog eyes are killin’ me.

”Potential Injuries and Illness Caused by Wire Flooring Dogs splay their paws in order to maintain their balance on wire flooring. Consequently, they can develop painful inter‐digital cysts and sores, which can disrupt their normal gait. Nails of the dog kept in these conditions overgrow―often in a curved manner―due to limited contact with solid surfaces. With continued overgrowth, curved nails can become painfully embedded in the paw pads. Long nails also contribute to abnormal gait and can become caught in or around the wire. They may then be partially or completely torn off, causing bleeding and great discomfort”
