A little more info: he did end up being a mechanic in the Air Force. He also has a Masters degree in electrical engineering and taught physics classes at various universities. My grandfather is without a doubt the smartest person I know.

Reminds me of Dwayne(?) from Little Miss Sunshine. Poor kid realizes he can't pursue his one and only dream due to colorblindness.
