“Even though residents of Barrow, the northernmost town in Alaska, won't see the sun for 67 days come winter, they enjoy the midnight sun all summer - over 80 days of uninterrupted daylight.”

Yep. Used to live out at NARL by Ilisagvik College. Different way of life. Summers are worse, sun doesn’t set for 87 days. At least in winter you get dawn dusk glow every day.

I remember reading somewhere that Alaska has the highest rate of suicides in the US and also has a major drinking problem within the population. I don't know if it's because of the weeks of darkness but I would imagine it plays a significant role.

Edit: while Alaska may no longer have the highest rates, it's still up there: Link (credit: u/_mach)
