Same scenario except I work in a restaurant, even happened last year for Christmas.

I had to work so my colleagues with kids could stay home, and other families could have a memorable experience. Which doesn’t bother me anywhere near as the dumbass “why are you working in xmas? Why aren’t you with your family?” questions from the clients dining.

Any time a customer says to me, "I can't believe your company has you working on the holidays!"...I reply with, "Well, as long as customers come in on the holidays, we'll be open." Not quite blaming them outright.

I work at a place like a nursing home and it’s even more sad on holidays like thanksgiving because not only are you working but also a lot of people in there are lonely and miss their family
