It was Saturday morning. At the State School Dr. Fernando Amos Siriani, in Bragança Paulista (SP), there was a literary parlor with parents and students. Among other activities, the event delivered certificates to students considered outstanding for school performance, according to the evaluations of the teachers of the teaching unit.
One of the names called to receive the certificate was the student Eloá de Oliveira Rosa, 13, who is in the seventh year of elementary school. The girl was surprised to see his name among the highlights.
"I did not expect it, because in the first two months I did more or less at school, but then I went to school and got better," he told BBC News Brazil.
According to school teachers, Eloá has always been a dedicated student.
"Last year, she had a difficult time in Portuguese, but, over time, she was struggling and improving. She stands out not only for her grades, but for her education, respect, affection, dedication and punctuality in the delivery of her work." says the Portuguese language teacher Tatiana de Lima, one of those responsible for organizing the study. She taught Eloá in 2017.
From the beginning of the show, while the students were reciting poems, housewife Maria das Graças de Oliveira Rosa, 54, was excited. As soon as she heard the name of the daughter among the highlights and saw the young woman receiving the certificate from Tatiana's hands, she tried to hold the cry, but the tears flowed discreetly on her face.
Maria was called to pose for a photo next to her daughter. At this moment, the woman began to cry copiously, hugging Eloah.
"At first, she tried to hide from the photo, ashamed to be crying, because the emotion was so great. So I calmed her and said it was an important moment, that they were beautiful and then she let me photograph her," reports the coordinator of the school, Cecília Fontaneta, responsible for recording the students' images at the event.
Maria explains that she was thrilled to see her daughter being praised and honored by the teachers. The housewife, who studied up to seventh grade from elementary school and left school to work, says she has always encouraged Eloa to be a good student.
"I was very happy to see how intelligent my daughter is and how hard she was in school," she told BBC News Brazil.
The housewife reveals that the emotion has surfaced even more because of the memories of her husband, who died on August 25 of this year after suffering a heart attack. The 54-year-old man used to encourage and help his youngest daughter in school.
"My husband always said about the importance of the school and wanted all the children to finish school, like him," says Maria, while holding the cry.
"I know that my husband would be very happy if he was there and he would see his daughter gaining that homage, I felt sorry for him not being with me at that moment...
