Isn’t a 25 minute monologue actually “exploring all the different creative options of tv as a medium” ?

I love seeing an episode as divisive as Free Churro, because to me it only speaks to the value of the episode itself.

Free Churro immediately resonated strongly with lots of people, myself included, while turning others off. Diversity makes the world go round, and I love that Bojack Horseman took a risk this big with an episode, which clearly paid off and didn't.

To me, the episode resonated because it managed to truly honor death by completely removing any reverence of it, and while it can be reduced to "just a monologue with a joke at the end," it was a monologue that at several moments (not just the ICU schtick) caught me completely off guard and forced me to rethink my expectations of grief. And at its core it was 100% Bojack - interspersing deep exploration of the human experience with absurd humor.

Having said that, I can't speak to how innovative it was as a structure for a TV show or how others shows have done it better. I've missed most TV shows. It could be that there wasn't a single original component here, but to me it seems the sum of the parts and the impact they had on me outweigh that discussion.
