I always just felt bad for Karen. She was such an obvious third-wheel character whose existence was mostly designed to act as foil for Jim and Pam's relationship. I thought she had potential to be really funny, if the tone hadn't gotten so serious for the romance angle.
I think the most unfortunate part is that Pam and Karen actually were developing kind of a cool friendship. I loved the two of them together in the committee to plan parties.
