Perhaps he uses them for something different. Ask him, if he does use them for work, your dad would surely love the little conversation at least.

You know... that might actually be a decent way to remove a splinter.

I dabble in woodworking and sometimes get splinters that are really hard to get out, and involve a lot of cutting into myself to remove. Something like this might draw it out more easily.

Or... removing dowels before the glue sets if that ever came up as an issue.

Or a small area of vacuum might help get air bubbles out of wood filler, especially in small holes where this can be a problem and they can pop later causing your filler to collapse.

I could see some legit woodworking uses for these.
