I wonder if he thinks “mom would be crushed if she realized I’m not really lifting her, she’s just stuck on the counter”? Probably not, but either way it’s a nice moment between the two of you.
I do this with my son too! Then I told him to try and lift his mom, he is four, and he couldn’t figure out why she couldn’t budget when he tried lifting her from the middle of the kitchen. He looked up at her and told her that she was too heavy.
When I was young I was really into Star Wars and having the “force.”
For some reason I ended up trying to make the scale go up as i was standing on it. I would tense up and concentrate and I always could. I did this more than once. I had powers.
...Nope, just Mom’s toe pressing on the back of the scale between my feet where I couldn’t see!
Haha, it was a really long time before I figured that one out.
