Stock up on basics that aren’t quick to go bad. Rice, noodles, frozen veggies, potatoes, etc. All are affordable and you can combine them to make different dishes. Save taco night for pay day.

I feel like people forgot how to eat. A whole bunch of knowledge just died off 10 years ago. It's not knowing what to cook that is cheap and easy is the problem. Look to the way some very poor cultures eat. Use their staples. The tortilla is so versatile. Hummus is very filling and cheap. Rice, the whole world eats it. Beans are cheap. Eggs are cheap. Also, there's nothing wrong with ghetto super markets, that food is really cheap. I can go to publix, or I can go to save-a-lot. My bank is the only one that can tell the difference. Go make yourself a scrambled egg tortilla. Hearty breakfast for less than 25 cents. Don't forget the hot sauce.
