I just saw my first puffins this summer and they are indeed adorable. They are horrible flyers but they dig burrows with two rooms, one for sleeping and another as a bathroom.
And they all sit at the opening to their homes chattering with their neighbours like a bunch of elderly people on their porches. It's fantastic.
Edit: I wasn't kidding about the flying. While they can stay airborne pretty well it must take a pile of energy with those little wings. It sounds like a flock of ducks running on wet pavement.
