Wow! I've dug for crystals in Arkansas before, and it's just as much muddy fun as this looks like.

Never got anything even 1/1000th as nice as this though!

If anyone is interested in hunting for quartz crystals in Arkansas, Google for places near Mt. Ida. Its just west of Little Rock. There's several mines you can pay a few dollars to to let you dig for crystals. You're certain to find something. Most of the time when I do this for just a couple of hours (I've done it about 3 times) I'll come back with half a gallon of crystals or so that are decent enough quality to actually sell in rock shops or on Etsy.

They're easy to clean the mud off of as well with a $5 bag of oxalic acid. Just Google the process.

You will get muddy. It's a blast. Kids love it.

*Edit: Mt. Ida. Also, shutout to our state parks. If you do decide to actually come and camp and dig for these things, our state parks here in Arkansas are fantastic places to stay at. We voted for a tax a few years ago to improve and upgrade the parks and as a geologist who has traveled the country, I can say AR's parks are some of the best. They honestly rival the quality of facilities like the Grand Canyon and Denali. Some of them anyway.
