Since this post is going to draw the right sort of crowd, I'd like to also post a tip for figuring out if an account is a troll.

Not too long ago, it became sort of routine to look at an account's age to help determine if was a troll. For a while, determining an account was created around mid 2015 helped to see if an account was genuine if other troll patterns fit.

But trolls adjusted and there are actually older accounts on Reddit that are either being sold or hacked. This sort of maneuver helps disguise intent if someone is superficially looking at an account's age.

I've seen quite a few trolls on here over the last six to eight months using 6 or 7 year old accounts. You can still figure out they are trolls, but you have to dig deeper.

Most trolls are singularly-minded and appear to have to different directives.

They inhabit one or two dubious subs almost exclusively. These accounts typically post 20 to 50 times a week at a minimum. These accounts are the propaganda drivers. They only engage in opposition subs making a lot of noise but not actually engaging in specific discussions. Sometimes these accounts are easy to spot because they won't cover their tracks. They post anti-conservative AND anti-liberal comments depending on where they are atm. These accounts are the agitators.

So how can you tell if a five or six year old account is a troll?

Look at their posts and comments. These accounts always have a huge activity gap. They also seem to pivot hard in interests. Anything before the gap indicates one pattern of usage, and everything after pivots to pure political posts.

I've even seen a handful of instances where an account is 6 or 7 years old, yet mysteriously that accounts comments and posts only go back 2 or 3 years. If you point this out, they will have some token excuse like they were lurking. But that's horseshit. Nobody lurks for 3 years on Reddit and then all of a sudden starts posting 50 to 100 political comments daily.

This is a major problem. I invite those of you who understand this to look closely at any account who is a little too Gung ho about Trump. I think you will find the amount of those accounts that are actually bogus astounding.

Because the reality is most genuine Trump supporters are not using this platform. This is very much an older, rural, Fox News crowd. There are some actual Trump supporters on here, but their numbers pale in comparison to the number of trolls. I sincerely believe I've actually only engaged with like 20 real people on this site that support Trump. I know this because I check histories and the patterns of behavior almost always line up.

2nd Edit: omfg... Can anyone help with formatting? How the hell do you properly space two numbered points in this language?

Pretty damning that there isn’t an uproarious backlash over the removal. Where is the accountability?
