The median net worth of Americans under the age of 35 is 7000$. If a person with that net worth were to donate 75 dollars to charity then they - in relative terms - would be a bigger philanthropist than Jeff Bezos. However, they won't get the word philanthropist next to their name.

In fact, it's even worse. A person with a net worth of 7000$ is pretty much living paycheck to paycheck (hope you don't fall and break a leg!), so a donation of 1% of their net worth will have a way bigger impact on their daily life than a 1% donation for Jeff Bezos would.

Also don't forget that Jeff Bezos will see some return on his "charitable donation". Not only is his donation tax deductible (even though amazon doesn't pay any taxes anyway), it is also a PR stunt. Have you ever noticed how all the millionaires and billionaires have the word philanthropist next to their name when they get interviewed on tv? Or on their wiki page. It's quite hard to find a really rich dude without the word philanthropist on their wikipedia page. In the future when he gets pressed on how its incredibly unethical to be that rich, he'll simply point to that one time he did a big donation to charity. It's all calculated.

Reminds me of a lyric by Daniel Kahn and the Painted Bird in the song 99% - Nayn-Un-Nayntsik:

"If they say you are a dirty bum who takes without restraint/ Just make a little donation and they'll say you are a saint"

This is nothing more than a move to gain face.
