We’re just a few weeks out from the release of Venom, the latest film from Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer, following which the filmmaker will jump straight into the long-awaited sequel to the 2009 horror-comedy – and indeed, he’s already managed to find the time to begin early pre-production.

“We’re already actually starting Zombieland,” said Fleischer in an interview with Fandango. I’ve been scouting and storyboarding and getting it going, and to get to work with that cast again is just an absolute dream come true. It’s been really exciting starting to think about that movie, and to get to work with Emma, Jesse, Woody and Abigail once again is truly a dream come true. Yeah, we’re just at the very early stages, but we have an amazing script, and we’re going to start shooting in Georgia in January.”

As with the original movie, Zombieland 2 is written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, and will reunite stars Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson and Abigail Breslin. It is set for release on October 11th 2018 – almost ten years to the day (well, month) that Zombieland first hit theaters.

I'm cautiously optimistic but comedy sequels have not exactly been killing it in recent times....

I can't believe that after all these years, they're finally making a sequel to Zombieland. Hopefully it's better than most of the sequels out there that took years and years to come out.

I’m guessing they mean it will be released in 2019, not next month?
