We had a male patient who was 100% mentally intact who would shit himself while he was in the hospital and have the nurses and assistants clean him because “it was their job”. The doctor got wind of this happening and wrote in order in the chart stating “when patient defecates on himself, patient will clean himself”. (He was totally capable of walking and caring for himself. So capable, infact that he stole food off his blind roommate’s tray AND snuck into the ped’s ward on another floor to eat food from their pantry as well.)
I would have let him sit in it if he did it when he was my patient. My colleagues are WAY nicer than I am.
