Finally cut the cord on cable! These boxes represent $50/mo rental fees, $600 per year. Over the last 4 years that equals $2,400 and I don’t even own them. I’ve paid $11,904 to watch tv and have Internet over those four years and this is way overdue, Fuck Comcast.

Yea we did this last year but just this year cut the rental cost for router/modem by just buying our own. The one we were renting we had for 4 years at 15 dollars a month that’s $720.00 we ended up buying our own modem and router for a little under $200 with a 5 year warranty. Our connection is stronger and faster since the change as well.

Edit: wow I’ve gotten so many up votes from this comment. The karma from this now makes up 2/3 of my total karma.

For those who are wanting to do the same I suggest checking your isp’s website for a list of supported modems and routers and looking into how to troubleshoot issues on your own since most likely you will no longer get much support from your isp.

They wouldn't even let me do this in Philly without cutting my internet speed to like 15mbps. Fucking packages, man.

Now just wait until they try to claim your modem is theirs. I had this happen once and they wanted to start charging me for it. I eventually requested they show me the purchase order for the modem. They dropped it after that. They even had my serial number in their DB those fucks.
