It’s a rough realization for some, and I think Ariana making that choice shows great maturity. She stuck with him for a long time, and likely did try to save him, as many who are in a relationship with an addict do, but in the end, if you’re going to drown trying to save them for the hundredth time, sometimes you have to save yourself.

I’ve seen my mother drown in my father’s liquor bottle for years, and she finally walked away. He used her as a crutch for so long, and made sure to put all the blame on her to keep her around, but even after actually saving his life, he still couldn’t stop. Not for her, his kids, or even himself. He’s alive thanks to her, but he lives a lonely life with no love from his family. Does it make us cruel or to home for his problem? We spent years trying. Begging. And he still chose it. It’s a disease, and like so many, they are contagious. Maybe with different symptoms, but if it’s going to kill you, too, in whatever way, you have the obligation to do what’s best for yourself.

If someone uses their addictions, diseases, or demons to keep you in a relationship, they do not love you anymore. They love that you’ll always be their life vest, even if that means your head is underwater while they’re breathing.

Seriously, Ariana has been through so much in the last year. She felt responsible that 22 people; most of them young kids; lost their lives coming to see her in Manchester. She personally visited some of the parents multiple times to check in and help out. Now as soon as something amazing happens to her and she gets engaged, her very recent ex overdoses and dies. Just a few days after being groped by a priest at a funeral for the world to see. Give her a goddamn break, she needs it more than anyone else right now.

My girlfriend left me at my lowest and I don't blame her one bit. Full on drug addiction is fucked up to be around and ultimately I'm responsible for my self.
