Reminds me of my dad when he was going through small cell lung cancer. After a while, he couldn’t take the treatment and had to be put in a nursing home for what we thought would be the rest of his life. Our dog would just lay in Dad’s bed all day without doing much. We ended up bringing Dad home for his last days because he expressed how upset he was that he wasn’t in his own home. I’d never seen a dog and a man so happy to see each other and knew it was the right choice for Dad’s peace of mind before passing.

My father died of lymphoma seven years ago this past Saturday. My German Shepherd girl (Josey) laid by his side almost the whole time he was home on hospice. I’ve always felt that dogs have an innate sense for those in pain. She passed away four months later (at 13 years old), and the causes are still unknown to this day. The veterinarian said she died of a broken heart. I very much hope this man and his pup pull through this endeavor. Everything that doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!
