My great grandfather was part of the resistance in the Netherlands. His farm was used to help hide allied soldiers and shot down pilots, and also make ~150 loaves of bread a week to smuggle into nearby prison camps. Just days before the province was liberated, Nazi soldiers conducted a search of the farm and found an American pilot’s uniform. My great grandfather was executed that day. I am immensely proud to be related to that man, and also my grandmother who was in her teens at the time. My family made sure to record her telling her life story before she passed so it lives on.
