For anybody interested, this is apparently a painting and self portrait by Michael Sweerts (from the 1660s). Not much is known about his early life or his training in the arts, but he was a talented painter who went on to do rather grandiose pieces like this. I knew nothing about the man before seeing this meme. But because of the wonders of technology, a quick cropping of this image, reverse image search, and browsing of his Wikipedia page has exposed me to one of the most interesting artists I've learned about this year.
