Lisa Lampanelli's check isn't in the mail. It is in the hands of the Gay Men's Health Crisis, and the memo line reads, "Donation made possible by the WBC."

The insult comic on Wednesday made good a pledge she made before she performed this past Friday at the Topeka Performing Arts Center. She vowed to donate $1,000 for each protester Westboro Baptist Church sent to picket her show.

Although Lampanelli's driver counted 44 protesters, including men, women and children, Westboro Baptist in one of its trademark faxes boasted it turned out 48 pickets. Rather than quibble, Lampanelli rounded up her donation to an even $50,000, which she presented Wednesday afternoon in New York City at GMHC, the nation’s oldest HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care services provider.

Lampanelli, who is supportive of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community, said she decided to make the pledge as a way to tweak the Pastor Fred Phelps-led Westboro Baptist and its anti-homosexual campaign.

So their entire congregation turned up then?

Seriously, why this tiny little annoyance of a "church" gets so much publicity is beyond me. Starve them of attention and they'll die.
