I made a lucky guess for when it would happen and captured F9 going through the supersonic regime, leaving these beautiful iridescent vapor rings in its path.

I’m quite pleased with my remote cameras images, as well as the long exposure I got — but this is by far my favorite from this mission.

I am a lunch photographer after all, so only fitting that I captured it flying through what looks like a donut and a badly folded burrito. (Looking at you, Chipotle) Mm, now I am hungry.

Anyway, just wanted to share this image as it quite literally took my breath away. Visually interesting things frequently happen as rockets go through the supersonic regime (CRS-14 vapor cone), and a guess for when it would happen during this morning’s ascent proved a good one.

I’m attempting to string together two launches in three days coast to coast with Iridium NEXT 7 on Wednesday morning (my first Vandenberg launch!). I go to as many of these launches as I can afford, so if you’d like to become a Patron of mine to support photos/videos like this…you can get exclusive access to my Discord channel, help me flush out ideas for photos, get hi-res downloads of the photos, and more BTS.

Here’s my full Telstar 19 VANTAGE photo gallery. Prints available!

Oh my god I’ve never seen a launch photo like that in my entire life! You did an absolute incredible job and perfect timing.

I've seen Gandalf blowing smoke rings but never Merlin ;) Spectacular shot, great work.
