I met this dude on Xbox Live in a random Halo 3 lobby like 10 years ago. He became my best friend on a personal level and we finally got to meet up in person today for the first time. First time ever meeting in the flesh and it was like we were childhood best friends right there. Xbox is amazing. :D

I met my Halo: Reach squad in person back in 2013! We went to RTX together. I’m from Massachusetts, one is from Chicago, one from Minnesota. I flew to Chicago and the guy from MN drove down to meet us. They picked me up at the airport and then we drove from Chicago to Austin, TX on a cross country road trip.

Craziest thing ever how Xbox can mold such bonds with people you’d otherwise never know existed!

Not to be depressing or anything, but I was in this same situation. Met a friend of mine over a Minecraft server and were best friends / brothers for 5 years. In the summer of year 5, I finally told him I'd like to meet up and drive down to his house to meet his family and him for the first time. He agreed, but a month later his depression took over and he took his own life. In the end, not having met any of his family before or even spoke with them, I searched far and wide over the internet for the slightest trace of them. Ended up finding out his dad was actually vice president of a major software company. Sent him a message over LinkedIn and he offered to fly me and my grandma out to attend his funeral I met his family, and I consider them to be my own now, and me theirs. It's now a year later, and to give me something to remember my best friend by, his father have me his computer. The internet truly is amazing.
