My dad had a forest that he donated to the state. He planted in it even in his last months. Dad had no money, but loved forests.

I recall a similiar Chinese proverb:

A boy sees an old man in his garden planting a cherry tree. The boy asks, "Old man, why are you planning a tree that you will never get to sit under?" The old man responds, "Fuck you, this is my garden and I'll plant whatever the Hell I want."
