Woman charged with attempted murder in beating of man, 92, with brick

LOS ANGELES -- A 30-year-old woman was charged with attempted murder Thursday for allegedly beating a 92-year-old man with a brick last week, CBS Los Angeles reports.

The L.A. County District Attorney's Office says Laquisha Jones, of Los Angeles, has also been charged with elder abuse, infliction of injury.

The felony complaint includes special allegations that the defendant personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon, the brick, during the beating and that she badly injured the victim, identified as Rodolfo Rodriguez. »

Prison employees experience PTSD on par with Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans, a new study from a Washington State University College of Nursing researcher found.

Working conditions in a prison can include regular exposure to violence and trauma, and threats of harm to the workers and their families.

Previous studies have shown that prison workers have some of the highest rates of mental illness, sleep disorders and physical health issues of all U.S. workers. »
