Todd Howard: 'If You Want Us to Stop Releasing Skyrim Ports, Stop Buying Them' - IGN News

Share. The Skyrim ports will keep on coming. The Skyrim ports will keep on coming.

Bethesda boss Todd Howard says "millions of people every month" still play Skyrim, and "that's why [Bethesda] will keep releasing it."

Skyrim ports have become a bit of a running joke of late, and even Bethesda is in on it, going so far as to make a spoof commercial starring Keegan-Michael Keys playing the RPG on the Amazon Echo, which turned out to be real and is even playable on your smart toilet.

Howard addressed the social media in-joke in an interview with Geoff Keighley at Gamelab, Barcelona, saying:

"Even now, the amount of people who play Skyrim seven years later; millions of people every month are playing that game," he said, via GamesIndustry.biz. "That's why we keep releasing it. If you want us to stop releasing it, stop buying it."

The title has made the list of games that has had the most concurrent players of 2018 on Steam, with over 50,000 simultaneous players, alongside Ark: Survival Evolved, Stardew Valley, and Rocket League.

Howard went on to say that he wants Bethesda's worlds to be sustainable beyond his time at the company: "Every year there's a new idea we can't do, and a new technology for something that excites us," he said.

"I'd say I want it to be sustainable. Eventually there will come a day where I'm not making games at Bethesda. Hopefully that's a long time away. But I want to make sure that who we are, what the worlds are, what the company is, that's sustainable far beyond me."
