Burglars always walked in on a sidewalk. I would put a single panel of wall near each "entry" sidewalk, with an alarm slapped on them. The moment they spawned, the alarm went off. No more of the waiting to be detected crap, and it never woke my sims since the alarm was outside.
I had that, but in sims 4 it was some stupid fucking pale ass dude sneaking into my house and I was like damn this robber is creepy, then he snuck into my best friends room, and I was like no fucking way this games gonna get too far with it, then he bit him.
