Technically it’s a “quality” date. It doesn’t “expire” like perishable foods. Non perishable foods have dates for quality, not safety. The manufacturer can put any date they want on it.

In other words, that salt will be good forever, unless something else contaminates it.

For fuck sakes... How many times does this shit need to be posted.

First off it has a date because legally (even if it is a stupid law) it has to.

Secondly, when it was sitting there for 250 million years in was within a larger section, uncontaminated (like it says). Now it's been processed and exposed to God knows what.

So between what might be growing on it and the moisture it will encounter when opened and stored in people's homes it would not be at its "best" after a period of time
