I had a case of the flu when I was really young. My cat, Zoe, always had hated me (past owners abuse). Anyway, she sat on my lap for the week, doing the same thing. Cats are awesome.
I've heard that low-pitch tones (like a purr) can speed up the healing process. Elephants have demonstrated it over wounded family and injured cats will purr by themselves.
