I love hearing about animal actors, I always wonder how hard they have to work, what they get paid in, and whether or not they have their own trailers with fancy water and treats.

I had a friend whose family worked with horses in film. She pointed out that often they double up horses (i.e. use CGI to make two horses look like four) to make it look like there's more of them. Now I can't stop checking the horses to see if they're clones.

On the flip side, I was kind of obsessed with WW1 for a while and read a lot of first-hand accounts of it. One thing that kept coming up was how horrific listening to the dying horses was. Like, these battle hardened men trying to survive the closest thing to hell earth has ever seen had learned to overcome a quite a lot, but listening to the pure hysterics of an innocent, shrapnel-torn animal, who didn't know any better recourse than to cry out in desperation endlessly, is something that remained in their nightmares forever.
