This boss can't be powered down, but he can be powered up for exponentially increased loot.
You'll need the butter pat and the saffron from the bakery, the antique plate from the castle, and the fine silverware you get all the way in the first town as a reward for doing the Farmer's Daughter...the sidequest, I mean.
Don't do the farmer's daughter. That leads to a completely different boss fight.
Anyway, if you apply all of these to him before the battle begins, his level will get jacked up to 365. On the flip side, once you take him down, you'll get level 99 gear; it's randomized, but it's always worth it.
