This is amazing, so tasteful yet a powerful statement of the sacrifice!

This is in Tyne Cot Cemetery, near Passendale.

There's a superb museum nearby that gives a brilliant look into the lives of WW1 soldiers, including a fake dugout, examples of trenches, and the sheer human cost of the battle of Ypres.

Source: was there last weekend.

I tell you what, New Zealanders know how to do beautiful war memorials. Take this sculpture in Wellington. Two trees intertwining, one with red leaves and one with green, united in peace despite their differences. But the really amazing part is if you look at it just the right angle... Can you see the silhouette of the the loan soldier above where the two trunks meet? A simple gorgeous bit of design. Fun fact, this memorial was made by WETA Workshop, more famous for their special effects work on Lord Of The Rings, Mad Max: Fury Road, Thor: Ragnorok, and Blade Runner 2049.
