For real though, gun suicide is a problem that needs to be addressed. Nearly two thirds of gun deaths in America are suicides, and almost all of those suicides are male suicides. For comparison, 0.03% of gun deaths are from school shootings. You’re 2000 times more likely to pull the trigger yourself than to be killed in a school shooting.

FiveThirtyEight has an excellent visualization of the statistics of gun deaths in America that corroborates my claims, and is very interesting to explore in its own right. I also used the findings of the National Center for Education Statistics on violent gun deaths in schools to supports my claims (see the graph on page 7 and Table 1.1 on page 108). Here's an image of a couple pie charts showing the actual distribution of gun deaths in America. It's much more suicide and much less mass shootings than is often portrayed.
