My sister's school did that in the 80s. Every child brought a fish (30!) and they made a giant beautiful communal aquarium.
One morning they walked in the classroom and all 30 fish were very, very immobile, like floating lifelessly in a giant blob of 30 fish huddled together. Turns out one of the kids made a beautiful ornament for the fish tank...out of soap.
